Councillor Awarded Royal British Legion Long Service Medal

On the 13th of November, long serving councillor, Nick Parker, was presented with an award for over three decades of service to the Royal British Legion poppy appeal. Mr Mike Rogers, RBL area President made the presentation, saying that it was a pleasure to recognise such sterling service and that Cllr Parker was an example of the voluntary commitment by people up and down the country that enables the work of the Legion. Mairi Harris, Local organiser of the poppy appeal also added her thanks and appreciation for Cllr Parker’s contribution.
Cllr Parker, who did not know ahead of the ceremony that he would be given an award, said that he was very surprised but also honoured and delighted to receive the medal. He added that “It has been a pleasure to support the poppy appeal for so many years. The Royal British Legion does so much to support our service men and women and their families that it’s important for us to support them in turn.”
